A tiny sample from Brief Glimpse verse~

Dean is 19 and Cas is 15. 

“Honey, are you okay?”

Dean’s mother had the worst habit of showing concern right when he didn’t want it.  Like after Cas glared through Dean’s attempts to ask about his upcoming academic team competition, accused Dean of teasing him and stomped up to Sam’s room.

“Yeah, mom, I’m fine.”

Her sharp eyes narrowed and Dean sighed.

“You know,” she said, her voice soft and thoughtful.  “Maybe you could try being a little more gentle?  Dean, you’re not normally so unkind.  You should just be yourself.”

Dean stared.  What the hell?  Unkind?  All he did was ask the kid about his tournament.  Okay, so maybe he called it a ‘dork circus’ and perhaps referring to Cas as ‘Head Nerd in Charge’ was not the best plan…hang on, what did his mother think he was trying to accomplish?

“What are you talking about?”

“Just…you catch more bees with honey, sweetheart.  Although perhaps the bees might be a little young for catching-“

Dean leapt from his chair, face burning with humiliation.  “It’s not…it’s not like that,” he lied, eye down.  He couldn’t bear the thought of seeing Mary’s pity.  Her understanding that her oldest son worshiped someone who loved her other child best. 

“It’s not,” he said again before fleeing the kitchen, ignoring her calls after him.
